Piece out branches to avoid nearby obstacles (houses, patio, fencing, etc) then cut main stem into yard towards neighbor’s lawn, cut stump as low as conditions permit. Dispose of debris.

REBAR LOCATING – Trees in some sections of Carolina Preserve were planted with steel rebar instead of wooden stakes. I must locate using a metal detector and remove any rebar before stump grinding. It is extremely dangerous to grind a stump without removing rebar first.

FOUND REBAR charged @ $10-$20/piece. Trees typically have 3 pieces, but some have less or none where someone removed it already. Homes on Marsalis Way usually don’t have rebar.

STUMP GRINDING (estimated until after 811 call and inspection work below completed)

I will need to call 811 to confirm utility line locations. 

– Grind entire mound to 6-8″ below lawn grade with center ground deep enough to allow replanting of a new tree in the same spot.

– Grind surface roots around tree making an approximate 15′ diameter circle centered on the tree trunk.

– Remove two pieces of metal edging to allow stump grinder access to back and then replace after grinding.

811 locates water and sewer to the curb, electrical, gas, and telecom to the house. Water and sewer generally go straight from the curb location to the house. If there is a question about water and sewer location the customer must waive my liability for these lines.

811 does not mark irrigation systems, low voltage wiring (dog invisible fences, lighting, security, etc.) and other underground systems. Per my waiver, I cannot take responsibility for these unless notified as to their existence and location.

GRINDINGS – Remove & dispose of stump grindings and big pieces of roots to allow for replanting later in the year or early next year. Expecting 3/5 cubic yard for disposal. Leave 1-2″ above grade to allow for settling to avoid having a pit forming where tree stump was.
